The Workshop is over, and it was a great success!

Ansuya was heartbreakingly beautiful. She is the most graceful, passionate, tragic, and sultry dancer I have ever seen; it was like watching a fire-spirit dance. It seemed as if dancing came almost as naturally to her as breathing. Jenaeni, her mother, was truly an excellent teacher, and had such a wonderful sense of humor and wisdom. Together they made an awe-inspiring teaching team. I only wish we could have studied with them for longer.

This workshop was the very first event we had ever organized and hosted.? Somehow it all came together—we provided refreshments for everyone, decorated the stage area with all our baskets, veils, carpets, cushions, and vases from home, contracted with vendors, did the publicity, handled registration, found and rented the hall, etc etc etc. Somehow, we created order out of chaos, and set the stage for beauty. As Ranaiyah commented afterwards, "I definitely think we deserve the award for Best Camouflage of a BasketBall Hoop, or maybe Best Turning a BasketBall Hoop from a Style Deficit to an Asset With the use of Fabric."

After the all-day workshop, we presented an hour-long performance. As the opening act, we had the privelege of performing Jenaeni's own choreography in front of her and Ansuya.

First we performed the Dance of Magic, the Pharoanic, Gameel-Gamal, and Hamza, all originally choreographed years ago by Jenaeni. Then various members of our troupe did solos. Ranaiyah did a sword dance, Irini presented a veil dance, and Selima did an upbeat solo with zills. Then Aleili performed the cane dance that she had originally choreographed for Ansuya, her god-daughter, 19 years ago when Ansuya was only four years old.

After Alieli's solo, Jenaeni introduced Ansuya, speaking of her own distinguished dance career as well as that of her daughter. Then Ansuya danced. It was truly the crown on a wonderful day.
